A melting pot of languages.
According to the New York City Department of Planning, there are approximately 200 different languages spoken in New York City; However, an article posted on the New York's Times website has that number at 800. The discrepancy between the number provided by the Times and that of the city's Department of Planning is quite noticeable but it doesn't change the fact that a considerably large number of different languages are spoken all over New York City. No amount of research will be sufficient to accurately determine the amount of languages spoken in New York City; however, I will be conducting some field researches to determine the most prominent languages.
